Melania Trump gave a speech last night at the RNC Convention.
Today, the media and internet are abuzz because it appears Melania plagiarized parts of Michelle Obama’s speech from the DNC in 2008.
If Melania did steal Michelle’s words, that was really stupid. Or stupid for whomever wrote or even helped with the speech.
I did a bit of research.
You can find Mrs. Obama’s speech transcript
here and Mrs. Trump’s speech transcript
here. If you analyze them, Mrs. Obama’s speech was 2,210 words and Mrs. Trump’s speech was 1, 321. Out of those, 21 words matched word for word, or less than 1%.
Did Melania purposely take Michelle’s words and pass them off as her own? Or was it mere coincidence?
I’ll let you be the judge.
I don´t know. Seems like pretty common platitudes you might hear in any inspirational speech. Hard to believe anyone would have intentionally copied it, but I guess it is possible. I do know that the press today has been acting like this is the worst thing ever, a blow to the campaign, the straw that should break the camel´s back - again. In the coverage I saw, there was no mention of the terrorist attack on a train in Germany. I guess we have moved on from that now.
ReplyDeleteLaura, yes the media is up to its "our world as we know it will end" attitude. Too bad they don't do their jobs and tell the honest to goodness truth.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about Germany. It was a refugee in foster care. He was only 17 years old.
Looks to me like the typical tempest in a teapot... Anything to distract or denigrate the Trumps... sigh
ReplyDeleteIt is a tempest in a teapot. As well as highlighting the stupidity of the Trump campaign handlers.
ReplyDeleteJoe Biden, as well as others have been guilty of the same. Unethical and therefore wrong on all counts.
Melania's is no worse than any of the others. Now, it's time to move on IMO. Bigger fish await to be fried.
RN, yes bigger fish to fry. Can you even believe this "plagiarism" outshone the terrorist attack in Germany? That's a shame.
DeleteI would imaging she used "we" and "they" some so that can be construed as plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteIn all fairness the democrat media machine is doing all it can to divert focus away from -H- and her lies and possibly illegal activity. Have they spent much time investigating why the candidates husband met with the AG two days before the FBI director said no go.
They have far more important things to investigate like a sentence or two that may or may not have been copied spoken by someone where English is not her first language.
Skudrunner, I am against plagiarism, no doubt, but is 21 words out of 2,000+ really blatant plagiarism?
DeleteYes, there are more important issues. But the media will set the agenda, regardless of what we the people want to hear--which, by the way, is the truth!
Unfortunately Pamela not all "We The People" really want to hee the truth. There are many who chose to bury the truth when it doesn't fit with their agenda.
DeletePamela: ...is 21 words out of 2,000+ really blatant plagiarism?
ReplyDeleteTrump camp admits Melania speech passages came from Michelle Obama's speech (Vox, 7/20/2016) Excerpt: Trump speechwriter Meredith McIver says the copied passages were due to a miscommunication. In her telling, Melania read some phrases to McIver over the phone and McIver didn't realize they were verbatim quotes from Obama's 2008 speech.
And, it isn't only Michelle Obama that Melania plagiarised! (See Melania Trump's Other Plagiarism Scandal).

Here's Why Hillary Clinton Isn't a Liar and James Comey Needs to Shut the Entire Hell Up.
OT... I an looking forward to the fact check report on Trump's not so impressive acceptance speech last night. I'm thinking the report will not be all that complimentary to the "Honest One".
ReplyDeleteAre you also looking forward to seeing this First Family OUT of the White House as I am
DeleteAfter all why should they have to live in a house build by Slaves!
IMO, yes I am looking forward to having them out of the White House. But I'm so not crazy about who we have to vote for come November.
DeleteOT... I've now started referring to the donald as Traitor Trump . An appropriate description wouldn't you agree?
ReplyDeleteSadly it's true.
DeleteWhat a mess we have this election.
Too bad every voting citizen doesn't refuse to vote. That would send a message!
Interesting thought. Just for shitz and grins, if that happened who would run the country after November? Extend Obama's tenure? The VP? The Speaker of the House? Chaos would reign. Exactly what the malcontent republican/conservative/T-publicans want methinks. Only with tRump at the head of the confusion leading the chaos.
DeleteYeah, you're right, RN. I wasn't thinking rationally.
DeleteIf things wouldn't go nutso, it's a nice thought! Get rid of both evil candidates.
